Without analytical skills, it is not an exaggeration to say that the lawyer is immature and inexperienced. The lawyer must be able to absorb large quantities of information and have the skill to filter out the unnecessary details and sort out the rest of the information in a logical format.
With the skill of analysing comes the skill of judgement. The lawyer needs to be quick in forming judgments that will be of benefit to their client. They must be able to think several steps ahead and be skilful enough to scrutinise the opposition’s argument to look for weak points in it and be able enough to come up with a counter argument for it.
Regardless of how good the lawyer did during academics, at the end of the day, a lawyer has to work with people and for people. This is exactly why they need to be approachable as well as patient. They must understand that there are people of different temperaments out there who may or may not be very patient which is why it is mandatory that the lawyer be patient. They must also be a very good listener.
